Metroid Origins: Engulfed By Flames by AlejandroVillada Metroid Origins: Engulfed By Flames by AlejandroVillada
The fateful encounter that decided the future of both Samus Aran and Ridley, from the japanese endings of Metrid Fusion.

This one was a lot of fun because there are so many versions of ridley that i had to come up with this one, done with those elements that defines him the most so it looks like it´s from an actual game (the dragon shape from Super Metroid and Metroid Zero Mission, the colors from Super Metroid, Fusion, Other M and Super Smash Bros, and even added some elements from real human/animal anatomy).

Done with pencils, pens and brush for the lineart (wich i will maybe upload), photoshop for the color/painting.

By the way, for some Metroid drawings from me: vap-aka.deviantart.com/art/Mis… especially recommended for fans of Metroid Fusion, the creepy boss "Nightmare", and comics!

Love both these characters. maybe my favorite moment not in the game its self. this really makes me wish they'd try to show k2l in the main series. just don't have ridley speaking english.

Wow, this is beautiful. I love the perspective and how you drew Ridley. This is one of my favorite scenes :c poor little Samus, I'd be dead just by looking at him personally.

Excellent Job!

A scene every Metroid fan is familiar with, and a scene that never gets old to me.  You did it justice, indeed.

Also, as I already commented on the other picture, definite fan of the Nightmare pic, too.  You do some great work.

This kinda explains why Samus is afraid of Ridley in Other M. At that point in Samus' life, hasn't she fought Ridley 5 times already? So why is she afraid of him? Why wasn't this scene shown in Other M when Ridley is introduced? It would actually tell the player why she is afraid of him. Unless you have read the Manga or played the Japanese version of Fusion, then you have no idea why Samus is going all PTSD. It would've made the game a tiny bit better. This picture is amazing though.

The reason that PTSD blankout didn't bother me is that after Super, Samus had no reason to believe Ridley could ever come back. He LITERALLY FELL APART, and then the planet blew. Super was even stated to be Ridley's canonical death. But thanks to the GF's idiocy and Ridley's gift of genetic memory....

And I'd hardly call it fear for herself. More like a horrible reminder of that time she was helpless to stop the destruction of the home she knew. Thus, when it looked like Anthony just bit the big one...BAAAM! That was enough to make Samus get back to business.

Thanks! and yeah, you´re right it wasnt well explained in Other M and even then, that game is the second last in the series she souldnt have had such emotional breakdown (at least not at that level), that should have happened in the original Metroid or in its remake, Metroid Zero Mission (in wich there is just a VERY short cutscene before fighting Ridley).

It´s a shame what happened in Other M, the game could have been excellent but it wasnt polished, the story has too many flaws, the gameplay was good but the "evasión technique" was a little broken (and that 1st person unable to move...), and i personally didnt like what they did with Nightmare, in Fusion he was a lot better (but Other M Phantoon was actually very cool), i still enjoyed it though.

You can still do the evasion move in first-person, I believe.

I didn't like the Nightmare fight either. I thought Phantoon's design was awesome, but the boss fight is simply span sense move and charge shots to win, and I'm not sure why he's there at all either. And I would imagine that when Samus saw Ridley, she would just sigh and say "Not this again." I would understand a little surprise that he's back, since Zebes went Kaboom with Ridley on it, but nothing like her reaction in game.

I was talking about design and atmosfere, they did that job well with Phantoon but with Nightmare they didnt, in Fusion Nightmare was really creepy becouse of his backstory, bulky design, the animations in the face, the ambience, the music... in Other M he is thinner, his voice is not "deep" anymore now he is like a baby, his face does not melt or anything, the room isnt dark and creepy but a clean lab with a lot of light, and his battle theme isnt there, it was replaced for some generic "action movie" soundtrack.  u_u

And yes Nightmare is one of my favourite metroid bosses xD

You´re welcome, glad you liked it!

It is a great scene that nobody seems to actually draw, so i did it (the next one i do will be from Super Metroid)

yeah is a day she will never forget, horrible yet very important... because of that i find strange that this event is never shown in any Metroid game, it is just referenced here and there, we only have that japanese ending in Metroid Fusion (and the manga).
